We are thrilled to announce that Serbia has been granted observer status in the Community Database on Accidents on the Roads in Europe (CARE) by the EU High-Level Group on road safety, held on 19 June 2023. This accomplishment follows a thorough feasibility study, started in early 2021 and driven by the Transport Community with the support of the European Commission, during which Serbia demonstrated its fulfillment of the criteria outlined for inclusion in CARE.
The decision to invite Serbia to join the CARE road safety expert group and share its dataset is a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of all stakeholders involved in promoting road safety. By becoming a member of CARE, Serbia will provide valuable disaggregated data on road crashes annually to the European Commission. Additionally, Serbia will have the opportunity to participate as an observer in the biannual CARE expert group meetings.
This milestone achievement signifies Serbia’s commitment to fully comply with the EU acquis on road crash statistics. By joining CARE, Serbia not only fulfills its obligations but also sets a commendable example for other regional partners in the Western Balkans.
This remarkable achievement is showing once more that road safety accomplishments need good collaboration among multi-sectorial stakeholders as well as International Organisations. Serbia’s participation in CARE will undoubtedly strengthen the collective efforts of the European Union and its Member States in promoting road safety, reducing serious injuries, and ultimately saving lives.
