BELGRADE – The Western Balkan Green Parliamentary Groups came together in a gathering organised by the Transport Community and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within the Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe: Energy, Transport, and Climate Protection (ORF-ETC) on Tuesday, 31 October 2023. The event discussed sustainable mobility and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
The members of the parliaments from across the Western Balkans were greeted by Mr Matej Zakonjšek, Transport Community Director, who presented the organisation’s activities and underlined the important role the members of the parliaments are playing in reforming legislation and adopting the EU standards in transport.
Ms Jasna Sekulović, ORF-ETC Programme Component Manager at GIZ, highlighted ORF-ETC programme activities related to cooperation with parliaments, showcasing their achievements, approach, and activities.
The participants also got the opportunity to gain insights into the Transport Community’s activities regarding sustainable mobility and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. Key discussions revolved around the Sustainable Smart Mobility Strategy for the Western Balkans and the EU, as presented by Mr Zakonjšek, along with an engaging Q&A session.
Following a short coffee break and a group photo, the event continued with discussions on climate change, mitigation, and adaptation in the transport sector, as well as rail developments and connectivity in the region. Transport Community’s experts, Mr Nedim Begović and Mr Dejan Lasica shared their knowledge in these areas, providing valuable information and perspectives.
The event was a unique opportunity for the parliamentarians and the Transport Community to join the conversation about sustainable mobility in the Western Balkans. By bringing together parliamentarians and experts, fostering meaningful discussions, and taking steps towards a greener and more sustainable future for the region went a step further.
