BELGRADE – Deputy Director of the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat, Ms Ljuba Siljanoska, met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Mr Milun Zogović, and the Minister of Transport of Montenegro, Ms Maja Vukićević, at the Secretariat’s Headquarters in Belgrade on Tuesday, 3 September. They discussed cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat, focusing on the transposition of relevant EU acquis and the implementation of infrastructure projects.
Presenting the work of the Transport Community and its bodies, Ms Siljanoska highlighted that the cooperation between the Government and the Secretariat has been fruitful. She also reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to assist the Government in transposing relevant EU legislation in the field of transport as well as in project implementation.
Ms Vukićević thanked the representatives of the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat for their assistance to the Government and expressed her hope that the cooperation will remain fruitful, particularly in the realm of infrastructure projects.
Discussing the legislative reforms in Montenegro, Ms Siljanoska encouraged the Government to proceed with the adoption of the new Railway Law and the Law on Railway Safety and Interoperability, as their adoption would signal dedication to the reforms. Moreover, she underlined the need for the adoption of the road medium-term plan for design, construction, reconstruction, and maintenance for the period 2024-2027.
She also congratulated the Government on the recently established joint rail border crossing between Serbia and Montenegro in Bijelo Polje and encouraged the Government to proceed with establishing joint road border crossings, offering the Transport Community’s expertise in the field.
Expressing her hope that the legislative reforms will be prompt, the Minister pointed out that the new Railway Law, the Law on Railway Safety, and the medium-term plan for construction, reconstruction, and maintenance of roads will be adopted by the end of the year. Underlining the ongoing discussions with Serbian counterparts, Ms Vukićević emphasised that the establishment of joint road border crossings between Serbia and Montenegro is a high priority for her Ministry, noting that the process will be easier to implement given the experience of establishing the joint rail border crossing.
