TURIN – The 17th meeting of the Transport Community’s Technical Committee for Roads is being held on 6 and 7 November in Turin, Italy. It gathered representatives from the Western Balkans, and observing participants (Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Georgia) to discuss the policy alignment with the EU standards, and infrastructure project, as well as get insights from the Mobility Center of Turin and Piedmont.
The meeting reviews the progress in the implementation of the first generation of the Action Plan for Roads, but also reviews the obligations defined by the new generation of the Action Plan for Roads for the programming period until 2027. These measures are also related to the Green Agenda, the Smart and Sustainable Mobility Strategy and the Reform Agenda for the Western Balkans.
Opening the meeting, Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, Mr Matej Zakonjšek, pointed out that the assessment of the Road Action Plan’s progress has shown varied levels of progress, pointing out that nearly all of the regional partners have adopted or are finalising their ITS strategies.
“However, additional efforts are crucial, particularly in road maintenance and climate resilience. The severe damage from last month’s floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina should serve as a wake-up call for all of us on the importance of prioritising climate resilience in our work,” he stressed out.
The representatives of the regional partners and observing partners will also use this opportunity to exchange information about their experience, thus encouraging regional cooperation in the field.
A visit to the Mobility Center in Turin will follow the technical discussions to support the region in adopting and applying EU standards across all areas of road transport.
