Transport Community delegation visited the Serbian town of Dimitrovgrad for productive meetings with Ministers Tomislav Momirović and Hristo Aleksiev. The visit highlighted the cooperation between Serbia and Bulgaria and the importance of Corridor X rail and road infrastructure projects. “Transport Community will continue supporting establishment of joint border crossings in the region as the most efficient way to reduce waiting times and remove congestions. Investments in infrastructure are important, but in order to improve connectivity and integrate the Western Balkans transport markets into the EU, we must solve congestions on borders. Completion of the route from Serbia to Bulgaria and establishment of one-stop rail border crossing in Dimitrovgrad will reduce border waiting time by 50% and make travel by rail more appealing to our citizens. I am looking forward to Dimitrovgrad station becoming a joint rail border crossing again in the future,” Transport Community Director Matej Zakonjšek stated during the visit to the station. The visit was a chance to review progress on construction of Road Corridor X, which will soon be completed on both sides of the border. Having a fully operational Corridor X from Serbia to Bulgaria, in compliance with TEN-T standards, is one of the priorities of our organisation.
