The 7th Technical Committee on Railway was held on 3 September 2020 via video conference. Representatives of regional partners, DG MOVE, the EU Agency for Railways, Shift 2 Rail, the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), EU member states and private sector discussed the implementation of the Rail Action Plan, priority infrastructure projects as well as enhancing rail passenger connections between capitals in the Western Balkans.
Matej Zakonjsek, Director of the TC Permanent Secretariat, formally opened the meeting and highlighted the priorities of the Secretariat. He noted the importance of integration of rail markets of Western Balkans and the adoption and implementation of the EU legislation. Railway should be promoted as environmentally friendly and attractive option to move as much cargo away from roads. The participants agreed that improvement of the rail passenger connections should be the mid-term priority and identified actions to be taken to move this initiative forward.
