PRISTINA – On Sunday, 5 November, a milestone was marked with the inauguration of two tunnels on Line 10 of the Railway rehabilitation project in Kosovo. The Line 10 rehabilitation includes the construction of 13 new bridges and the reconstruction of seven tunnels and is set to transform transportation infrastructure in the region, linking Kosovo to the Trans-European Transport Network.

The two tunnels, one measuring 262 meters in length and the other 122 meters, were completely reconstructed as part of this ambitious railway rehabilitation project that is aimed at strengthening, expanding, and modernising the region’s infrastructure links, ultimately enhancing connectivity and promoting economic growth.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, H.E. Albin Kurti, joined by key government officials, as well as representatives of the European Union Office in Kosovo and the Italian Ambassador in Kosovo, celebrated the reopening of the tunnels 6 and 7.

The rehabilitation of the railway line Fushë Kosova/Kosovo Polje-Hani i Elezit/Elez Han, part of Phase I of the Line 10 project, is a step towards linking Kosovo to the Trans-European Transport Network. With the completion of this project, the train’s speed will increase from a maximum of 60 kilometers per hour to over 100 kilometers per hour, improving transportation efficiency and connectivity.

The Line 10 Railway Rehabilitation Project is a collaborative effort, supported by strategic investments from the European Union and implemented by the Italian enterprise GCF Railways. This initiative aims to provide faster and more affordable public transport options, benefiting both citizens and businesses.
