SKOPJE – The Faculty of Civil Engineering welcomed the Transport Community’s experts for a seminar introducing the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) policy to the Faculty’s students and professors, as well as interested transport professionals. The event shed light on the EU’s efforts to build a unified, sustainable, and efficient transport network connecting countries across Europe, including the Western Balkans.
The TEN-T policy is the backbone of European connectivity, integrating railways, roads, ports, and airports to support economic growth, improve access to jobs and services, and facilitate trade. It also focuses on reducing the environmental impact of transport and ensuring safety and resilience across the network.
The seminar featured welcoming remarks from Professor Goran Markovski, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Matej Zakonjsek, Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community. Both emphasised the importance of the TEN-T network for fostering regional and European integration, particularly through the newly established Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean Corridor.
Throughout the event, the experts from the Transport Community Secretariat outlined the infrastructure requirements and policy reforms shaping the network. Ms Nerejda Hoxha, Road Coordinator, discussed key performance indicators for roads, highlighting smart and resilient transport systems. Mr Kire Dimanoski, Rail Officer, presented similar benchmarks for railways, underlining their critical role in sustainable transport, while Mr Nedim Begovic, Desk Officer for Green and Multimodal Solutions, introduced the concept of urban nodes and multimodal freight terminals, essential for seamless and environmentally friendly logistics.
