Transport of Dangerous Goods

The Technical Committee on Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) was established by the Regional Steering Committee to address specific tasks related to the carriage of  goods classified as dangerous, e.g. explosives, gases, flammable liquids, toxic and infectious substances etc. by road, rail and inland waterways. The committee is composed of representatives from the Contracting Parties, who propose solutions in their areas of responsibility to the Regional Steering Committee for final decisions. The Technical Committee is open to observers from all EU member states, and relevant organisations, which may be invited ad hoc. As per the 6th Ministerial Council Joint Statement from November 2022, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine have joined the Technical Committee as Observing Participants. The committee has the authority to establish its own rules of procedure and is chaired by a South East European Party, following the arrangements set forth in the rules of procedure.The Committee established its work program in the Guidelines for transport of dangerous goods and is currently working on several items concerning adaptation and exchange of experience between the different competent authorities developin competences to transpose and implement and enforce successfully this set of EU Acquis.

Cross-sectoral cooperation is necessary to prevent the inherent dangers incumbent in these goods from happening, therefore continuous dialogue is being insured to facilitate implementation of this acquis.

The Committee is streamlining priority projects in the region concerning safe and secure inland transport of dangerous goods in accordance with EU Directives. The commonly agreed actions complement and reinforce – where necessary – the decisions taken at the level of each Regional Partner.

The Committee reports regularly on its ongoing work which is being developed to cover all the relevant areas of transport of dangerous goods.
